If mallet names had subtitles this one would read: A timpanists reaction to attempting to articulate in Elder Hall.
One of the better acoustics in the Adelaide region for large ensembles is notoriously difficult to play timpani in. Once the broader textures of winds and brass join in, any hope of hearing a rhythm is swallowed comfortably.
The small wooden core was chosen specifically to produce brightness and clarity in extremely resonant acoustics, and the smaller shaft helps whip out the notes regardless of dynamic. The outer layer of synthetic felt was split uncomfortably thin to provide a very hard mallet, indeed.
