Sitting in a cold and dark storage room, Amanda Grigg found two Sonor hand-tuned timpani from the 1930s in dire conditions when she took over as Head of Percussion at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in 2009. Since then they have sat lonely and unused in a corner of her University's studio. Until recently...
Unlike our brothers and sisters in the eastern states of Australia, Adelaide does not have easy access to period-style timpani. Over the next few months, Amanda and Andrew will attempt to turn these drums into an instrument suitable for the Classical period repertoire.
